About us
The method: hand washed, cold water, plant-based soap
We are rug-washing specialists in Weston, not a carpet-cleaning outfit that also takes rugs. The whole business is built around one way of working, and the word green in our name describes that method.
Why cold water
Wool is a protein fibre. Heat opens it, loosens natural dye and shrinks the cotton foundation underneath — which is what pulls a rug out of square and sends a red border running into an ivory field. Cold water avoids all of that. It takes longer and it takes more handling, and that is the trade we make.
Why plant-based soap
Strong alkaline detergents and solvents strip the lanolin that gives wool its resilience and dull the sheen on silk. A mild plant-based soap lifts soil without doing that, and it rinses out fully so nothing is left in the pile to attract dirt or bother anyone in the house. This is a cleaning choice, not an accreditation — we make no environmental claims beyond what we actually use.
Why hand washing
A machine treats every part of a rug the same. A hand does not. Worn ends, thin patches, an old repair and a silk inlay all need different pressure, and you only know where they are once you are working across the rug. Washing by hand also means the foundation gets flushed rather than the surface being skimmed.
What humidity does to a fine rug here
Homes in Weston and southwest Broward run air conditioning year-round against heavy humidity, and the rugs in the formal rooms are often genuine hand-knotted Persian, wool and silk pieces that sit undisturbed for months. Three things follow. Mildew forms in the foundation, at the base of the pile where you cannot see it, so the smell arrives before the stain and the warp threads weaken quietly. Dyes bleed when a rug like that is cleaned with hot water, and the damage is permanent. And fringes fray long before the rug itself is worn, because they take the load every time the rug is walked on or vacuumed. All three are avoidable, and all three are why we wash the way we do.
